CREATIVITY
The dictionary description is as follows. “Creativity is the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods and interpretations.”
Creativity is embedded into our very nature from the moment of birth. It is an integral part of the human experience. Each and every one of us has the ability to access our creative nature at any time and to any depth which we desire.
When I speak of using the Creative Process, I am referring to time spent in which one’s focus is to create from your inner world using a form of alternative communication. For example you may use music, dance, painting or writing as ways of self expression. It is important to remember that within the creative process there are no rules, no right or wrong and no staying in the lines. It is a form of pushing limits, rejecting accepted assumptions and breaking through boundaries. Being creative is about letting go of thoughts that one is not artistic enough or simply lacks the skills needed. This is achieved by the shifting of one’s focus from the outcome, to simply being present in the process. This is all that is needed to create the space for you to respond to your thoughts and emotions in an intuitive, playful and often times enlightening manner.
Like any language, creativity it takes a willingness and focus to explore. The experience here is that this is your very own personal language and you create it exactly as you wish. Immersing oneself in the creative process opens the opportunity to communicate with your higher self on a journey towards personal growth, self-understanding, physical health as well as emotional and spiritual well being.
CURIOSITY
Creativity is made up of many elements of which I will share some. Let us open with curiosity, the inner drive to seek out knowledge, the key to learning. Frequently acting upon our curiosity actually strengthens our minds. We go from passively accepting established ideas and solutions, to our minds becoming active in a quest for new ideas. Learning, unlearning and relearning are all part of the process of going deeper into our curiosity. We get comfortable with letting go of embedded ideas in order to explore new ones. We learn to trade comfort for potential. Curiosity and play override our sense of vulnerability and allows us to reside in a state of open mindedness.
What makes “art” intriguing is the spirit of originality imbued in each creation. It is very exciting, not to mention mind opening, to see a universal thought, feeling or idea expressed from someone’s personal perspective in a way unique and original to them alone. It is also very exciting to see people discover new original ways of interacting with different mediums while expressing those ideas.
